Supporting Mayo with Tax-Deductible Donations

Help us provide the best senior care for our community.

A Mayo Healthcare resident enjoys her birthday flowers

Mayo is a local charity and non-profit organization, and all contributions to us are tax-deductible. Each year we receive donations and support from more than 100 individuals and local businesses in Northfield and Central Vermont. Your contribution can make a real impact.

Many Ways to Make a Difference

If you would like to support Mayo, please review the giving programs and opportunities below. You’re also welcome to contact us to learn more, share an idea, or get involved with a fundraising event.

Donated funds have helped us to buy the new Mayo van, install a new walking path, and build the pergola in our garden. Our community’s support has also helped us buy new computers, plant trees and shrubs, and purchase exercise equipment. Recently, a local business committed to donating $1,000 per year for five years, to benefit our music program. That has made it possible for us to bring in a variety of talented musicians, from the Vermont community and elsewhere.

If you have a project or priority you’d like to support, we’ll be delighted to talk about it.

Legacy Giving Program

Each year we provide the community nearly $1 million in healthcare services to people who cannot afford them. Government reimbursements often don’t match the cost of providing Mayo’s high-quality, award-winning care. This means we must raise additional funds to make improvements that enhance the lives of our residents.

If you are interested in contributing to our mission and work, please get in touch with Lois Lusignan at (802) 485-3161, or contact us for more information about our Legacy Giving program.

Memorial Gifts

If you would like to make or encourage donations to Mayo in memory of a loved one, please know this really makes a difference. Gifts made without restriction can be devoted to a range of specific projects, and to our overall sustainability.

To encourage memorial gifts by others, we suggest including, in the memorial notice or obituary: “In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Mayo Healthcare in Northfield.” Contact us to discuss options.

Planned Giving

Did you know that you can leave a percent of your 401k, life insurance policy, or house to Mayo? Donations of cash, real estate, stock or other securities, retirement plans, charitable gift annuities or trusts, or life insurance are all possible. These legacy gifts can be given at many different levels. Again, all contributions to Mayo are fully tax-deductible. Contact us to learn more.

Gifts of Stock

Donating appreciated stock is an excellent way to gain important financial and tax benefits for yourself while helping Mayo Healthcare. Contact us to explore donating stock.

Annual Appeal Gifts

We recently started an annual appeal to help fund the gap between expenses and reimbursements. As you probably know, not all residents can pay 100% of the cost of their care. And, typically, Medicare and Medicaid pay only a percentage of what Mayo’s actual services cost. By building awareness of this gap, we hope to raise funds to keep our residential care, rehabilitation, and nursing services accessible to everyone who needs them.  Be in touch to learn more about our annual appeal.

Matching Gifts

Many companies match employee donations — and as a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Mayo is eligible for employers’ matching gift programs. Please make Mayo aware of your matching program, so that we can facilitate the doubling of your generous donation.

Naming Opportunities

From tables in our library to our Serenity Lounge, a number of Mayo facilities carry the name of the family or other donor who made them possible. If you would like to discuss a Naming Opportunity, please contact us at your convenience.

Volunteering

Volunteering is a great way to give back, honor the older generation, and meet new friends. Community members come to Mayo to share their talents in the arts via singing, playing instruments, leading arts and crafts workshops, giving lectures, and more.

Mayo has a rich tradition of involving residents in events like our Taste of Maple evening, our Valentine’s Day ball with Norwich University cadets, our old-fashioned car rally, our 44-door knock Halloween evening, and many other celebrations. Volunteers are key to keeping these events organized and festive. In-kind donations from local businesses are most welcome, too.  If you’d like to volunteer or offer an in-kind donation, please be in touch.
